Tips for Veterans Day
- Go early or late. Lunch and dinner rushes on the 11th are long at the big chains. Mid afternoon is quieter.
- Call your local restaurant. Franchise locations can skip a national offer, and a quick call saves a wasted trip.
- Carry two kinds of proof. A photo ID plus a service document covers almost every rule.
- Tip on the full value. Servers work the busiest shift of the year, and the meal is free to you, not to them.
For year-round freebies, see the free samples by mail guide or birthday freebies.
Who can get Veterans Day free meals?
Veterans and active duty service members almost everywhere. Many chains also include National Guard and Reserve members, and a few include military spouses. Each restaurant sets its own rule, so check the wording of this year's offer before you go.
What counts as proof of service?
Restaurants usually accept a military ID, a VA health card (VHIC) or Veteran ID Card, a driver's license with a veteran mark, a DD-214, or a VFW or American Legion card. Some also accept a photo of you in uniform. Bring an ID with your photo just in case.
Do I have to eat on Veterans Day itself?
Mostly yes: the free meal is usually dine-in on November 11 only, at participating locations. A few chains hand out a voucher or card to use later, and some run their military night on a different date, so the table above notes those.
Are Veterans Day meals really free?
The meal itself usually is, from a short menu, but drinks, tips and add-ons cost extra. Of the 1 live Veterans Day offers on this page, 1 are marked free with no purchase, 0 need a purchase or fee, and 0 have terms nobody has confirmed yet.
When are Veterans Day deals announced?
Most chains post their offer in the first week of November, and some only a day or two before. This page refreshes every hour as members post offers, so check back the week of the 11th.
