How to get free magazine subscriptions
Why magazines give away free subscriptions
A magazine charges advertisers based on how many people read it, so publishers will happily send you issues for free to keep their numbers up. That is why free magazine subscriptions are one of the most reliable freebies around. They come from a few places:
- Publisher promotions. Publishers open free subscription offers for a set number of readers, usually for one year of print or digital issues. These are what TrySpree lists, each linking to the offer page.
- Trade and industry magazines. Business, tech, medical, and trade titles are free to people who work in that field. The sign-up form asks about your job and company. That is a qualification form, not a survey trap, and the magazine really is free.
- Points and rewards programs. Many airline, hotel, and shopping rewards programs let you trade leftover points for magazine subscriptions.
- Your library. Most public libraries offer free digital magazines through their reading apps. All you need is a library card.
The auto-renew catch
A real free subscription ends when it ends. Some "free trial issue" offers are different: they send one issue, then bill you for a full year unless you cancel, or ask for a card "for auto-renewal." TrySpree does not list those as free. If an offer page asks for payment details, it is not a free subscription.
What to expect
- The first issue usually arrives in 6 to 10 weeks, because magazines are printed months ahead.
- Near the end of the term you may get renewal notices that look like bills. You do not have to pay them. Just ignore them and the subscription stops.
- Publishers often share your address with other publishers, so expect some extra mail.
Tips
- Sort by newest. Popular titles fill their free spots fast.
- Only sign up for magazines you will actually read. Unread issues just mean more renewal mail.
- For ebooks and audiobooks, see free books. For other free reading, see free digital samples.
Every TrySpree listing links to the company running the offer, and members flag offers that are not genuinely free. See how we check offers.
